Life safety generator fuel tanks are typically sized to provide the required run time (usually 2 hours) – based on a 75% full fuel tank. The reason for the 75% number is that the generators are periodically operated for testing, so the codes allow for a fuel level drawdown from 90% to 75% to allow for testing consumption.
Life safety generators require top-off to re-fill from 75 to 90% fuel levels. A 1000 gallon tank would require 150 Gallons, and a 100 gallon tank would require 15 gallons. How do you do this safely and efficiently?
Most facilities will periodically measure and record fuel levels in their life safety generator tanks, add up the gallons, and schedule a standard tanker truck delivery using its on-board pump. This is an expensive truck, and expensive driver making too many fuel deliveries – costing too much money.

Cloud based delivery software provides the facility manager with a record of the fuel level of each generator tank examined, and the delivery gallons.

Economical delivery by full truckload usually means gravity drop of deliveries as is done at most gas stations and truck stops. This works great if the hospital tanks are underground or aboveground with fixed pump equipped fill stations. But if a pumped truck is needed this usually means uneconomical delivery by less than truckload pricing, and disrupting the most efficient logistics plan.

Data Center generators are typically mounted in modular enclosures atop large sub-base fuel storage tanks. These tanks are typically filled by pump equipped tanker trucks. This delivery method has 2 issues.
Delivery by pump equipped truck limits data center to a relatively small number of local suppliers, limiting the advantages for a national fuel logistics plan by full tanker truck

A second problem for data centers is that if they relay on local pump equipped trucks – there is a limited number of them. During an extended run operation, large volumes of fuel will be required and likely the local pump equipped trucks will be unavailable or limited in number.
