4.00 Storage Tanks in Building (9)
Storage tanks are often installed inside buildings, particularly in urban environments where the property lines do not allow space for outside aboveground – or even underground tanks. Because of the hazards associated with fuel storage in buildings, most building codes will address the installation and use in detail and with significant limitations.
The primary protections are primarily that the fuel is stored on the lowest level of the building, and within a fire rated room that also provides secondary containment.
